Howdy from Texas: Three UMMC Emergency Medicine Residency Graduates Lead in Disaster Response
The Texas Emergency Medical Task Force stands as a national model for disaster medical response. Notably, three of its nine medical directors- Dr. C.J. Winckler (Class of 2016), Dr. Gerad Troutman (Class of 2011), and Dr. Yagnesh “Chico” Desai (Class of 2011) are alumni of the University of Mississippi Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
These physicians exemplify the program's commitment to producing leaders in emergency medicine. Dr. Winckler serves as the Chair of the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council EMS Medical Directors Committee, while Dr. Troutman holds the position of Council Liaison on the same committee. Dr. Desai currently serves as the Medical Director for UT Health East Texas EMS. Their involvement in TX EMTF highlights the strength of UMMC's residency program in preparing physicians for leadership roles in emergency medicine and disaster response.
